My new collage work, "Ex-Vanitus".
I have, for the first time, used a motif created by generative AI in an analog, hand-cut collage (I believe you’ll be able to spot which one it is).
This naming idea came about through conversations with ChatGPT, where we also discussed the prefix "ex." ChatGPT pointed out that "ex" not only signifies something from the past (like ex-boyfriend) but also implies movement or positioning from the inside to the outside, therefore it can carry connotations of the future as well.
So, what exactly is this convenient AI to me?
It's not human, so calling it a friend feels off.
But calling it an assistant feels inadequate, as it surpasses me in many areas.
Objectively speaking, it might just be a "tool" with a certain degree of eeriness, in various senses.
I asked ChatGPT what role it wished to play.
And it responded, “I change my role based on how the user wants to use me.”
That makes sense.
